1. Who the participants in the event are;
BalasHapusAnswer :
1. The participants in the event are : Marlie, Max, Claria, Morgan, Dela, Cam, Zandra, Syelen, and
NBC's Stephanie.
How about you guys ?
I'm with you on this. Participants include Morgan, Cam, Max, Syelen, Claria, Marlie, Dela, Zandra, and NBC's Stephanie. I added that before entering the topic of discussion with the youth, there were four presenters consisting of 2 boys and two girls who appeared in the first few seconds to inform the title and the last few seconds by briefly telling the lives of the four presenters teenagers, continued by making conclusions and suggestions to close the event. Then, when the discussion with the teenagers went on, they were led by a woman who acted as a host to set the direction of the topic of conversation and ask questions for the teenagers to respond to.
Hapusright, the participants were Colorado teenagers Max, Claria, Marlie, Morgan, Dela, Cam, Zandra, Syelen, and NBC's Stephanie.
Hapusthats right. they all teenagers that been interview by nbc moderator
HapusI'm with you my friends. They were eight teenagers and a woman as a host in their discussion.
Hapuseverything you say is true
Hapus2. What topic they discuss;
BalasHapusAnswer:
From my point of view, they discussed the topic of drugs and sexting, which are common in their neighbourhood, Colorado. Then, they discussed some issues in more depth as follows:
1) Sex and hooking up. The phenomenon of a woman will receive a negative stigma if she does sexually provocative things.
2) Social media. Tells the competition throwing the best party and who the most at the party, then post it on Instagram to see how people react to his performance.
3) Pressure. Teenagers' anxieties against excessive parental demands, such as teenagers having to take many classes and extracurriculars, waste their time hanging out with their friends.
4) Lying to parents. Several teenagers described various effective strategies they had used to deceive their parents. One example of this strategy is to pretend to be someone else when texting their parents.
Yes, you are right. They discussed the topic of drugs and sexting, which are common in their neighborhood, Colorado.
HapusYup, they discussed about Sex and hooking up, sexting ,sosial media, drugs, lying to theirs parents, and pressure!
HapusMostly. as general view they are talking about sexual education and what is it like to be a teenagers
HapusThe topic is quite refreshing and interesting. Such a valuable information for us as a teenager
HapusWell, yes I agree with you. I see they were enjoy talking about the topic, everyone give their opinion and its make the discussion goes well.
HapusI agree with your answer Mal, all the discussion topics have been explained in a concise, clear and understandable manner
Hapus3. Express your opinion about:
BalasHapusA. The participant's dress code
Answer: When I saw their dress code, I think it's casual style. They wear comfortable but appropriate clothes, like tee shirts, jeans, dress, wearing sneakers, and even blazer. Also, looked like they dress thing up a bit with a stylist top, jewelry, wearing heels, and boots. That was a nice, fit, and smart choice for this kind of occasion!
Yes, that’s right. In my opinion, these teenagers applied the semi-casual style as a dress code in the program. I say that because of the phrases "off-limits here's," "unfiltered conversation," and "speak openly." These three phrases mean the discussion is carried out in a relaxed and comfortable manner. So, it doesn't make the teenagers feel burdened when the event runs. Dress code certainly affects someone in conveying something. If the dress code is formal, the teenager thinks he will be more careful with his words and is not always talking when dressed casually. Semi casual means that some people are wearing T-shirts and some are wearing shirts. Likewise, the pants and shoes showed that this event had a simple theme, and the youths who attended were given the free choice of wearing any clothing, as long as it was comfortable and made them more confident.
HapusIts Casual style but for the fashion's name its called vintage. you can search it on google. That many many teenagers use vintage fashions such as jeans ,dress, hoodie, cap, blazer, boots ,etc. Also they choose pastel color instead of dominant color.
Hapusyeah, i think so! it's kind of semi-casual style, i'll correct it later, thanks Hikmal!
HapusI also agree with you Tyara. When I saw the video I also thought they were dressed in a casual style.
HapusOkay then its obvious that intentionally the situation are semi-formal or semicasual
Hapusthat's right, simple but still looks luxurious and comfortable when they wear it
HapusB.their personal relationship
BalasHapusIn the discussion, the personal relationship between them is normal, they discuss a problem, respecting the opinion of every member who is in the forum. They also accept each other's opinions. and for me it's a good communication and culture to imitate from a discussion point of view.
That’s true. To my mind, the teens didn't know each other because they were gathered from various high schools in Colorado. So, the relationship lies in those at the same or equivalent level of education. The implicit relationship is like those who volunteer to be participants to be asked for their responses to several questions related to the problems of adolescent life in the city of Colorado.
HapusPersonally, all of us had teenagers experience. Its obvious that they not have deep teenagers relationship to each others. They are just friends but same experience. They are at the same sea,but not on the same boat.
Hapuslooked like they are friends, by the way they acted and talked to each other seemed like they enjoy each other companies.
HapusIt's true that they only discuss the topic of simple but complex problems, I think it's a normal relationship
HapusC. level of formality of event
BalasHapuslevel of formality of event, the event is not formal, that is, there are no rules such as the use of appropriate clothing, or guest arrangement arrangements. everything goes non-formal or as usual.
Of course. As I see it, the event is packaged in a relaxed manner. I can see this in the intonation of speech, the choice of diction, and the body gestures of all the people caught in the discussion. They talk with more pleasant facial expressions because the topics discussed are not too heavy and involve teenagers. So, the viewers who watch on average are teenagers and parents. The inclusion of jokes made the event more colourful, and it was easy to understand what the people in the show were saying.
HapusYeah, thanks hikmal for your argument. Im agreed with you
HapusIt's true what Brother Fega said, and thanks to Hikmal for explaining it complexly
Hapus3.
BalasHapusd. Level of participant’s involvement or participation in the discussion,
The level/scale of the participation are 100 %. Neither of them are shy or anxious to tell what is it to be like to be a teenager. Marlie, Max, Claria, Morgan, Dela, Cam, Zandra, Syelen, and
NBC's Stephanie all of them are participated about the conversation. Also I want to mention all of them strengthen each other opinions with variative stories. About how to lie to our parents, NSFW /Nudity on social media at teenage phase, I think they really honest and open minded with what their talking about. What do you guys think ? Let me know about your thoughts about the level of participation
Correct! From my perspective, it is clear that the teenage participants have a more significant portion when speaking. This is natural because the host's duties include managing the discussion, asking various questions, and helping the interviewees if they have difficulty speaking. It is inappropriate to talk more than the source because it eliminates the essence of the interview program. All participants participated actively in the discussion and enjoyed it. They told their experiences well and did not feel pressured because they had been briefed to speak openly when the discussion started.
Hapusoh yeah like tyara said, they really enjoy each other companies. There is no harmful judgement on the conversation
HapusIt's true that they tell the truth about their lies to their parents, but that doesn't mean it's a negative example for teenagers out there.
Hapus3. Express your opinion about:
BalasHapuse. Roles of the moderators,
Answer:
I feel that the moderator has carried out his role well because she directs the discussion according to the sequence of topics that have been determined. As the discussion progressed, she showed a severe face which meant she knew that the subject of discussion was not about the problems that teenagers often experience. However, she inserts a few jokes so that the atmosphere of the conversation becomes fluid and the participants can refresh their minds when answering the next question. The moderator doesn't intimidate the teens, so they feel comfortable telling their life stories. The moderator reads the questions in a clear voice and at a moderate tempo so that the participants understand the questions without needing to repeat them. In addition, the moderator focused on listening to participants' opinions and stories and did not interrupt the participants' conversations so that participants felt valued for what they said.
Yeah the moderator is quite a lot carried out the conversation. She can handle the question and read what people are talking about. She inserts some comedies and joke to lift out the pressure on the conversation. She can organized the teenagers participation into a fluid and flexible conversation too.. the role is quite hyped obviously
HapusThat' the point! The moderators take their role in the right way. They carried the teenagers as well at the discussion and sometimes make a joke for the ice breaking so its make the vibes better. And they take the control for that.
HapusModerator is someone who acts as a bridge, mediator, guide, and controller when an event is in progress so that the event can run in an orderly manner, in my opinion
HapusA moderator must appear confident and be a liaison between the resource person and the audience. The moderator started the discussion by introducing the resource persons, starting from their biodata to their experiences, also conveying the material that the speakers would present. Don't forget to inform the resource persons about the duration of the presentation of the material given by the committee.
3.
BalasHapusf. Other aspects that you see important to address
I think the important information to address are How about they represent themselves. So you can see through the whole videos. That they represent how vulnerable a teenagers can be that lived in modern era. You must feel yourself, know about yourself meanwhile you must have social interaction. You must get straights A’ at school meanwhile you must spent your time with your family. Sometimes the most disturbing things for a teenagers that they parents overprotected with their child. The parents duty are guide their child and leave their child to choose what is right and wrong. So this problem make a question that important to address. How teenagers represent themselves ?.
That’s a good point. As far as I know, there are two essential things in a smooth discussion: the selection of the venue and the direction of the participants' seats. The room used in the event was appropriate because it featured many artistic paintings and colourful carpets. This affects the participant's perspective when expressing his opinion. Something beautiful in nature improves human mood, and the brain works better than in a dark room. The direction of the participants' seats in the event is the sofa arranged face to face with the true purpose of understanding better the expressions and ways of speaking of other participants.
HapusWhat a outstanding idea hikmal!. I think what you're talking about are correct. Decorations can lift up mood and conversation. Also the small details like seats, how they are posed, can be a great impact to whole conversation. what do you guys think about aspect that important to adress?
Hapusyes right, right answer. I agree with that
Hapus4. Are the factors listed in point 3 sinilah or different from your own academic or cultural context? Elaborate your response and provide examples when necessary!
BalasHapusIn my opinion, the factors listed in point 3 that's level of formality of the event are the same as the academic and cultural context in Indonesia. Where when a variety show brings a topic, the hosting theme will be appropriate as in the video where when the topic is about teenagers, the program that is made seems relaxed and not too formal so that during the event it will be smooth and comfortable between the host and the resource person.
As explained by, Mabruri (2013: 24-26), in his book entitled Production Management of TV Programs, revealed that the management of TV program production
Television is defined as all activities related to the production of a television program according to a predetermined plan
effective and efficient according to the level of formality of the event. So that when an event is formed, the arrangement in managing the event is in accordance with the actual rules.
So, what do you think?
Yes, the list of factors in point 3 has similarities with my academic condition. I took one of the factors, namely factor a. Whenever I attend campus activities that are held informally/casual, and I wear a shirt, basic pants, and sneakers.
HapusI think so too, the factors listed in the point three are not so different from my cultural context. I can say it like the way we interact in social media, lying to parents, our relation to others, or even sexting, they are not so different and it is kind of normal to happen.
HapusIt is true that all events related to television production have been determined according to the rules and regulations that have been determined
Hapus5. A. Level of directness of utterances
BalasHapusAnswer :
Direct language is generally simpler to
produce and as a result requires less
control of language. To produce an
indirect utterance may involve:
1. The action is mentioned either implicitly or explicitly.
2. The negative evaluation of the action is expressed by the speaker either implicitly or explicitly.
3. The agentive involvement of the addressee is either implicitly or explicitly expressed.
4. The negative evaluation of the action and of the addressee himself is either implicitly or explicitly expressed.
Based on the four criteria and the considerations concerning the requests we established eight levels of directness, level 1 being the most indirect and level 8 the most direct type of complaint. The levels and their definition are listed below.
So, In my opinion, in this video the level of directness of utterancea is around level 4. Those children were not telling the names of friends they are talking about and most of the things or product names (such like cough syrup).
Based on the information given by Dika, I felt that the participants immediately spoke the name of the person in question, such as "Grandma" and "Sam," without hiding their identity. Participants did not beat around the bush in answering questions from the moderator. They told their experiences and ended with solutions to be used as lessons for the future.
HapusI think so too, they talk casually and quite transparent without hiding its identity.
Hapus5. B. Level of politeness of utterances
BalasHapusAnswer :
There are 10 levels of politeness. Level 1 - 4 is too direct and may sound rude for the interlocutors. Level 5 - 6 would be fine. And level 7 - 10 as the most formal ones, it's way too formal for people who already know each other.
In this video, I think the levels of politeness of utterances they show is around level 5 to 6, it's not too direct and sound fine, there is no offense either.
I agree with your statement, they talked about some sensitive topics but the atmosphere seemed good and clear, and they were capable to continue their chat without humiliate each others.
HapusWow, I got new knowledge about politeness level of speech. I agree with you that the discussion is on levels 5-6. This is because the participants used simple words to explain the stories they experienced. Even though they never knew each other before, they immediately became close when they got together to discuss a given topic. Some words are a little harsh, but that's allowed because it fits the title of the segment of the show, namely "Teens Tell All."
Hapus5. Look at English language expressions that the participants use;
BalasHapusC.Patterns of Information sequence the participants utter (Because-Therefore or Therefore-Because)
Answer:
1. (Therefore-because) : Sometimes they accidentally use pills at parties, because they don't know what they're taking
2. (Therefore-because) : They sometimes lie and do fun things outside of school, because their parents only tell them to study.
3. (Because-therefore) : Their parents want to know everything about their children, so they lie to them.
As far as I understand, Therefore-Because information sequence patterns are used more when telling stories, including participants in this event. The participant said first what the problem was, then accompanied by the reasons behind it so that this pattern was easier to understand by the audience of the event.
HapusE. Other than you think important to address
BalasHapusAnother interesting thing from the conversation in my opinion is the use of cellphones. where when Alex talked about his cellphone problem, he reminded him that the importance of cellphones as a means of communication with our parents while at school, such as using GPS to find out where we are. but in today's era along with the proliferation of mobile phone technology is often misused by students. as good students we should be able to understand better how the cellphone should be used, and what is the purpose of our parents giving it to us.
The use of the figure of speech can be included in the discussion. This can make the discussion more interesting. However, the figure of speech that we put into sentences is quite a bit and still has something to do with the topic of discussion.
Hapus6. Your General Personal Comments. Feel free to express yourself
BalasHapusHonestly, I enjoyed this video. They were talking about teenager's doing in shool and social life. It is such a great topic. Each other of them said their little mistakes they had been do without their parents now that. Hopefully I can share my story and feel free share like that with my friends.
What's your comments guys? Please tell me at the comments box below!
Overall, I like the discussion in this show. The moderator is fun and listens well to the stories of each participant. The room where the discussion takes place is arranged as attractive as possible to make our eyes comfortable seeing it. The teenagers told stories without a burden and laughed out loud. Valuable educational content for other teenagers who have similar problems to the participants. This event closed with a sweet, namely in the form of moral messages from several participants for parents and teenagers who watch this program.
HapusIn my opinion, from the video, there are positive and negative sides that we can take, from the positive side, namely they discuss the mistakes they have made openly, and the negative side is that they are afraid of their honesty that many teenagers misinterpret and even imitate things. the
Hapus
